Forestville
Sawmill town, then artist town, then dinner town. All three still in the air.
Forestville got its name in 1867, after a saloon owner. It got its character later — Cooper’s Sawmill, California’s first commercial mill, then the writers and artists who came for the woods, then the chefs who came for everything else. The Farmhouse Inn held a Michelin star for fourteen years. The downtown is three blocks long. None of that contradicts itself.
Forestville the candle is all of it at once.
Bergamot and juniper open it — bright and sparkling, the freshness of a shaded canopy. Aromatic gin runs through the heart, with red currant, lavender, and a thin lift of mint — the sensory memory of a vineyard breeze, or a quiet moment by the river. Balsam and earthy green leaves at the base, warm and lingering, the hush of wooded hills.
It is the smell of a town that makes room for both the sawyer and the chef. Of bohemian quiet held by old forests. Of three blocks that still know how to surprise you.
